Accra Branch and Others
Following his relocation to Accra in 2004, Godwin and other Old Boys such as Otto Langmane began to rally Caroleans living in Accra-Tema and surrounding areas. The unfortunate death and funeral of Amatus Galyuoni in Accra became a pull factor for many more Old Boys to meet. At one of the meetings on 4th March 2006, at the GBC Club House, a resolution was passed to open the Association’s first bank account at the Ghana Commercial Bank.
The first constitution was drafted, and the first officers were elected in 2006. Godwin Yao Doagbodzie who had been acting President became the first substantive President. Otto Langmane became the Treasurer and John Ofori was the first Secretary. The new Association was inaugurated at the Christ the King Parish Hall in 2006. Karim Adam developed the Association’s first website.
Godwin served as the Association’s President from 2004 to 2010 when Peter Bakufan replaced him as the second President with Mark Ofori Amanfo as his Vice President from 2010 to 2013. As a result of the health challenges of Peter, Mark succeeded him in 2013 and has since been the President. The first review of the Association’s constitution was carried out in 2010.
Key to the development of the Tamale and Accra branches were the efforts at mobilisation of Caroleans at the campuses of the University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. The efforts of Lucas Batania and others in Legon and Michael Dzisi at KNUST supported the growth of the branch associations.
In the last few years, the Kumasi Branch has flourished very well under the leadership of Victor Ninsau and his team of officers.
The North American Chapter was birthed in 2018 and has since been very active and supportive of the Global SCOBA endeavours.
