Our History

The St. Charles Old Boys Association (SCOBA) North America is an association of past students of St. Charles Minor Seminary/senior high school in Tamale, Ghana. It is made up of members in the USA and Canada. There were and are still quite a number of old boys in North America and there was not a formal means of communicating among old boys. Some members (Dr. Prosper Beni in particular) brought the idea of the old boys organizing ourselves. That came to light when members were contacted individually and they consented to us forming an association. On May 7, 2020, a WhatsApp platform was created with about 8 members and we all agreed inviting fellow old boys. Messrs.’ David Kajah, Ben Adei and Dr. Proper Beni were made interim administrators of the platform. Currently membership has grown to 46 and growing. On December 27, 2020 the association held its first meeting and elected officers to stir the affairs for two years. A select committee was formed and headed by Professor Mark Kutame to draft the constitution and work is in progress. On March 10, SCOBA NORTH AMERICA was registered as a not for profit organization at the secretary of state in the state of Illinois.

Membership

Anyone who attended St. Charles for at least one full academic year and willing to support the course of st. Charles, network and share ideas and vital information with colleagues. Currently there are 46 members ranging from 1957 when the school had its first graduates to 2016.

Our Mission

 NORTH AMERICA  was  formed to:

  1. Bring all old boys in North America under one umbrella
  2. See to the welfare of its members
  3. Promote a good relationship between the association and similar associations elsewhere
  4. Enhance the development of our alma mater St. Charles Minor Seminary/Senior High School

St. Charles Minor Seminary/Senior High School was  a top school and hence the beacon of hope in the Northern Region of Ghana. Unfortunately that  high standard dwindled over the years.  SCOBA NORTH AMERICA envisions to bring back St. Charles to its past glories or even a better performing school comparable to any grade A school in the country. We are putting structures in place(see projects below) in the short term to get the school back on its feet and in the long term help the school to maintain its standard in the foreseeable future.

SCOBA - Alumni Profile - Prof. Zack Yamba

Prof Zack Yamba is North America’s most senior alumni of St Charles Minor Seminary Secondary School, Tamale. He shares with us his journey to the St Charles family.

From humble beginnings in Bawku and Navrongo, in Northern Ghana, Prof will grow to become one of the pioneers of St Charles, Tamale. He will later on proceed to achieve many other firsts in academia and community service.
